Academic Standards

Clear expectations. Professional integrity. Clinical readiness.

At the Institute of Natural Medicine, academic standards are designed to support meaningful learning, ethical responsibility, and confident progression into applied and clinical work. Our programs uphold high expectations while honoring the depth, responsibility, and professionalism required in natural health education.

These standards apply to all programs offered through the Institute.

Program Structure & Academic Progression

All programs follow a three-level educational structure, with each level building intentionally upon the last:

Foundational Level: Core theory, terminology, and holistic frameworks

Applied Level: Integration, pattern recognition, and practical application

Clinical Skills Level: Case-based thinking, protocol development, and professional readiness

Students must successfully complete each level before advancing.

1. Grading System – Zero Baseline Method

The Institute uses a Zero Baseline Grading System to ensure fairness, transparency, and accountability.

  • Every assignment begins at 0 points

Points are earned based on:

  • Accuracy
  • Completeness
  • Adherence to instructions
  • Demonstrated understanding and application

Grades reflect mastery of material rather than partial effort.

Grading Scale:

  • 90–100% = Excellent
  • 80–89% = Proficient
  • 70–79% = Satisfactory
  • Below 70% = Does Not Meet Standards (requires revision/resubmission)

2. Assignment Expectations by Level

Assignment depth and complexity increase with each program level.

Foundational Level

Short written assignments (approximately 1 page)

Knowledge-based quizzes (multiple choice, fill-in-the-blank, true/false)

Introductory practical and observation-based assignments

Applied Level

Expanded written assignments (approximately 2 pages)

Case-based learning and integration exercises

Protocol and plan-building assignments

Applied quizzes and practical evaluations

Clinical Skills Level

Advanced written work (approximately 3 pages)

Clinical-style case studies and documentation practice

Protocol development using scope-appropriate language

Clinical skills assessments and final evaluations

All written work must follow the formatting and submission guidelines outlined in the Official Student Handbook.

3. Instructional Framework

Every course is taught through a natural medicine or holistic nutrition framework, depending on the program, ensuring instruction remains aligned with appropriate theoretical foundations, practical application, and professional scope.

Instruction integrates physical systems, emotional and behavioral patterns, and energetic considerations as appropriate to the discipline and level of study.

4. Online Participation & Academic Progress

As a self-paced online institution:

Students are expected to log into their classroom regularly and make consistent progress

Falling more than 30 days behind may result in academic probation

Participation in live or recorded skills labs is strongly encouraged, particularly at the Applied and Clinical Skills levels

5. Academic Integrity & Professional Conduct

Integrity is fundamental to both education and future professional practice.

Plagiarism, dishonesty, or falsification of work is grounds for dismissal

All assignments must represent the student’s own work

The use of prohibited aids, misrepresentation, or misuse of AI tools is not permitted

Plagiarism detection and exam integrity tools may be used

6. Minimum Academic Standing

To successfully complete each program level, students must:

Maintain a minimum overall average of 75%

Complete all required assignments, practicals, and evaluations

Students who do not meet minimum standards may be required to revise work or complete remediation before advancing.
